All bullets will be Returned (titled borrowed from the Escuela Popular de Cine, Chile) was born as a reaction to the political events in Chile in 2019. Using one of the most iconic photographs that circulate on social media about the protesters mutilated by the police, I reconstructed with a x-acto knife (as a surgeon would do) on paper, the face of seven protestors who lost their eye after being intentionally shot by the police.
The installation is a gesture to make visible the strength of the protesters, whose life-altering injuries have not deterred them from fighting for equality. As one protester said: “losing my eye be worth it.”
The massive protests beginning in October, 2019 addressed decades of an extreme neoliberal regime.
